Villeneuve v. Équifax & Trans Union
Summary
The class action seeks compensation for all consumers whose personal information in their credit files with Equifax or TransUnion has been found to be false or inaccurate at any time since May 5, 2023.
In 2025, one of the representatives, Kevin Villeneuve, received several alerts from Equifax indicating that a new mortgage had been added to his credit file. However, Mr. Villeneuve already had a mortgage on his home. After researching and investigating, Mr. Villeneuve discovered that this mortgage belonged to another consumer named “Kevin Villeneuve,” whose information had ended up in his credit report. Mr. Villeneuve had to be persistent to get his credit report corrected, without any help from the credit bureaus, which continued to claim for months that the mortgage belonged to him.

Class
All individuals residing in Canada who have requested a correction to their credit report from one or both Defendants regarding inaccurate personal information, and whose correction was not made properly or in a timely manner, since May 5, 2023.
Damages (compensation) sought
The Plaintiffs are seeking compensatory damages in the amount of $5,000 per Class Member, as well as punitive damages in the amount of $5,000 per Class Member.
Registration
